LECO’s Portfolio for Your Lab

Instruments for Cement and Building Material Analysis

Modern building materials are not just stones and mortar. For all of its benefits, cement is a surprisingly complex mixture of a balance of ingredients such as lime, silica, alumina and more. The quality and strength of this and other building materials is determined from their chemical make-ups. Join LECO’s experts as they explain how chemical and moisture analyses of cement and other building materials can be performed quickly, efficiently, and accurately.

LECO delivers perfect solutions for your samples such as cement and clinker, raw materials, environmental samples, fuels and alternative fuels as well as lime, gypsum and quick lime. Check out our product portfolio for cement and building material analysis including the CHN828, SC832, RC612, AC600, and TGA801 and see how we can empower your results.

Learn your new PEGASUS® BT on your schedule

Your Pegasus® BT is a powerful instrument, but if you're unsure how to use some of its features, you aren't able to get the full benefit from your investment. LECO is rolling out LECOLearn, an online, on-demand training site to help you maximise your laboratory.

LECO adds Hydrogen to the 828 Series

LECO announces the addition of hydrogen analysis capabilities to the 828 series, which will transform the way users determine carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen in a variety of petrochemical and other organic materials. The CHN828 maintains the core capabilities and performance of previous generations of LECO macro combustion instruments while possessing key improvements in throughput, uptime, and reliability. By incorporating state-of-the-art hardware and an on-board touch-screen software platform with rapid analysis times, the CHN828 operates at a low cost-per-analysis and allows users to easily handle the most demanding sample applications.

Low-Level Nitrogen Samples in Food Materials

Did you catch our recent article on Food Navigator? Nitrogen content in food materials is necessary to measure when determining the total protein content. This measurement of nitrogen content can be performed using a classical wet chemistry method, but this tends to be a slow and tedious process. The combustion-based Dumas method has gained popularity in recent years as it significantly increases laboratory productivity. Yet when the sample has a low level of nitrogen it can be challenging to analyse. Examples of these hard-to-analyse samples include dry corn starch, NDIN filter bags, nutritional drinks, and beer. How can the combustion method be optimised to accommodate these lower-level nitrogen samples?

TF Series Laboratory Technician Insert Crucible into Tube Furnace

TF Series Tube Furnaces

The LECO Cornerstone® TF Tube Furnaces are versatile, energy-efficient resistance furnaces designed for baking crucibles to reduce contaminants that would interfere with analytical results.

  • Long-life molybdenum disilicide heating elements have an operating temperature range of 800 °C to 1350 °C
  • Integrated digital furnace controller displays set point or actual temperatureand provides overtemperature protection
  • TF4 Quad Tube Furnace system has six heating elements
    • Allows operator to burn off crucibles in four combustion tubes for demanding, high-volume installations supplying two to four units
  • TF2 Dual Tube Design has four heating elements
    • Efficiently supplies lower volume installations of one to two systems

The table below illustrates the impact of preheating 528-018 Crucibles on carbon and sulfur results of a high purity iron reference material certified at 5 ppm carbon and 2 ppm sulfur (1250 °C for 15 min).

tf crucible blank furnace comparisons

The new furnace design and increased crucible capacity use 60% less energy than the previous models for significant savings inoperating costs. The chart below exhibits the differences in operating costs while operating the various systems at 1350 °C, considering continuous operation with a full load of crucibles.
